Overview of Our Solutions
Our products can be only as good as the problems that they solve. Whether the problem is soil quality or how to compost indoors, our products are designed and selected to have the best environmental footprint. In general, that means relying on microbes to get the job done. And why not? Ultimately, they do all the work of making something great (humus) out of something we no longer have significant value in (waste organic material).
The following chart is instrumental in helping you to understand the role of microbes in the soil.

Commercial SolutionsCompost tea has been around for many years. What is new about that? Two things: 1. Compost Extract technology is now available to create a compost (tea) extract with a signficantly longer shelf life with improved species diversity over aerated compost tea technologies. Extracts can provide up to 3 months more shelf life during the colder winter months. This is accomplished without changing the pH of the tea or any other gimics. The reason for this new option is that we are able to reduce the CO2 production of the microbes down to below 2% while the compost is maturing in the windrows. That means that the microbes are asleep and not consuming the precious oxygen in the water when we produce the extract. We provide you with the activator that awakens the microbes and makes the extract active. 2. Application: Meet the Stihl SR-450 sprayer. It is the same technology used to produce leaf blowers, but in this configuration, it is a sprayer (yes, an answer to the value of the noisy leaf blower). This technology is readily available, already well understood by commercial staff, and significantly reduces the costs of equipment for applying the extract. This makes it possible to create an easy 'add-on' service to your business where you can earn more revenue per stop or client. The SR-450 makes it possible to spray compost extract as soft and gently as possible up to 35 feet into the canopy of trees. The value of compost extract is greatly increased when helping your clients identify environmentally friendly solutions after a drought, or to help prepare for the next drought. Residential SolutionsUrban Agriculture is expected to grow to 20% of the food market in 8 years time according to Forbes magazine. That is huge. It also explains who is going to be producing our food. Our friends down the street, within the county, or maybe the adjacent county. However, with our agriculutral soils drained of their productivity through industrial agriculture over the last 60 years, we need to start looking to the soils where we can have an impact. At the same time, our retirement incomes are weakening, health care costs are rising, and the quality of our food is becoming more transparent. For some, the answer may lie in "investing" in their soils. Why? Because urban gardening pioneers like Urban Patchwork and Resolution Gardens will be choosing from the properties that give them the best chance to succeed in producing food. In exchange, you might expect free food share(s). For others, it is about getting the highest quality of food, something that is very expensive to purchase, yet reasonable when done in your own garden. For these reasons, see our page about our residential solutions and how we can help get the critical natural cycles of carbon, water, minerals and biological activity working in the right directions in your soil. |

Agricultural SolutionsAgricultural soils have taken a beating over the last 60 years. The principals of extraction economics mean that we burn up the organic matter and nutrients in soil until they are exhausted, and then we go to the next property. That is not the case for all farmers or farms. If your goal is to build soil quality, then some of the best tools can be found in our webstore. We believe in the role of microbes as you can see in our Vision video on the Soil Improvement Overview page. We look for products that compliment that vision such as the Azomite minerals, mycorrhizae beneficial funghi, probiotics, compost microbes etc., etc. These solutions will help you develop a soil that functions sustainably when organic matter levels can reach a 3% level. Please see our Agricultural solutions page for more info. |
